Real Problems. Properly Diagnosed. Permanently Fixed.

Every chimney system tells a story. These are real issues we've identified and corrected for homeowners throughout Louisville and surrounding areas.

We document our work because we believe homeowners deserve to see what was done and why. Each project below includes the problem we found, the approach we took, and the outcome.

Leaning Chimney Rebuilt With Lightweight Veneer System in Prospect, KY

A structurally compromised chimney near US-42 in Prospect, Kentucky was dismantled and rebuilt using a lighter veneer system to eliminate the excessive masonry weight that had caused the original structure to lean.

    Problem Identified

The original chimney chase was carrying excessive masonry weight on a wood-framed structure. Over time, that weight contributed to visible leaning toward the roof side of the home, creating a structural concern and increasing the risk of ongoing movement and weather-related failure.

    What We Found

    • The chimney chase had been built fully out of brick rather than a lighter veneer-based wall assembly
    • The framing below was supporting more weight than it should have been
    • The chimney had visibly leaned toward the roof side
    • The system also needed proper new flashing and top-end weather protection

    Work Performed

    • Demolished the existing leaning chimney chase
    • Built a new wood-framed chimney structure
    • Installed reinforcing mesh and vapor barrier
    • Applied a lighter brick veneer to reduce structural load
    • Installed new flashing at the roof-to-chimney transition
    • Installed a new stainless steel chase cover
    • Completed the system with a cleaner, lighter, and more structurally appropriate design

    Outcome

The finished chimney preserves the look of a masonry chimney while significantly reducing the structural load that had contributed to the original lean. The rebuilt system is cleaner, better protected from water intrusion, and built around a more appropriate structural approach for long-term performance.

Custom Chimney Cap Installation and Fireplace Restoration

The homeowner called after bats had entered the house through the chimney system. On inspection we found that the previous chimney caps had been poorly constructed and were failing, and that both chimney interiors needed corrective repairs before the fireplaces could be considered operational. We completed the interior work, restored both fireplaces to working order, and installed two custom stainless steel chimney caps painted to match the home's shutters.
